MS in Real Estate Valuation
Benefits
The real estate valuation concentration is one of five active programs in the nation that satisfies the rigorous educational requirements of the Appraisal Institute's MAI designation. Students can satisfy most of the Appraisal Institute's education requirements by completing the concentration. This concentration emphasizes real estate valuation while providing comprehensive education in related disciplines so that graduates' analytical skills and abilities to communicate with other professionals are greatly enhanced. Whenever possible, students will be placed in internships with MAIs.
Convenience
All courses for the program are offered in the evening on the Monroe
Park Academic campus. Classes typically meet once a week for 2 hours and 40 minutes per evening. You proceed at your own pace through the program. As a result, you may complete your degree in as little as 12 months or take up to five years to finish.
Prerequisites
A course in calculus is a prerequisite for the M.Sc in Real Estate Valuation. This prerequisite may be waived for students who present satisfactory equivalent preparation. Students are expected to enter the program with basic computing proficiency. Specific expectations will be provided by the Graduate Studies in Business Office. M.Sc in Real Estate Valuation also requires FIRE 425 - Real Estate Appraisal and FIRE 4311 - Advanced Real Estate Appraisal. Prerequisites do not have to be completed before applying.
Foundation Courses
The Master of Science in Real Estate Valuation includes six foundation courses that provide an introduction to the business disciplines. All or some of the foundation courses may be waived for students who have taken the equivalent undergraduate coursework. The Graduate Studies office can assist you in determining which foundation courses may be waived.
Waiver Policy
Most prerequisite and foundation courses are waived if you have completed three or more semester hours in the area with a grade of "C" or better. ACCT 507, MGMT 524 and ECON 500 are waived only if you have completed a minimum of six undergraduate semester hours in the area. Courses in Quantitative Analysis and computer programming or applications are not sufficient to waive MGMT 524 without additional convincing evidence, such as course descriptions or syllabi.
